Why it matters
Online discoverability for doctors in Pakistan
The belief that doctors need social media for digital presence is partly a digital marketing agency myth and partly a misunderstanding of how patients actually find and book healthcare. The overwhelming majority of new patient bookings in Pakistan's cities start with a Google search — either by condition, specialty, or location. Google Maps, organic search, and AI Overviews are the channels that drive these bookings. Social media plays a brand awareness role, but it is rarely the primary booking channel.
Social media also carries significant risks for doctors: Instagram accounts can be permanently suspended without warning (even those with 50K+ followers), content can be misinterpreted in a medical context, and the time investment to maintain quality social presence is substantial. For doctors who've had accounts suspended or who've seen colleagues' accounts disappear, the anxiety around social media as a core channel is entirely rational.
A doctor with a clean personal website, a fully optimised Google Business Profile, profiles on Marham, Healthwire, and DoctorUna, and 30+ genuine Google reviews has a stronger patient acquisition presence than a doctor with 10K Instagram followers and none of the above. The owned channels compound. The social following is fragile.
